Decorating a villa in Saint-Tropez: coastal elegance

Saint-Tropez demands a balancing act: obvious yet discreet luxury, a holiday atmosphere that lasts all year, and a house that copes with salt, sand and constant trips to the pool. Here is how I decorate a Tropezian villa.
A light, textured, never clinical base
Walls are finished in lime or mineral paint, in slightly broken whites that catch the light through the pines. Terracotta, stone or travertine floors keep the house cool and evoke Provence without folklore.
The classic mistake is stacking nautical codes — blue stripes, anchors, ropes. Keep the gesture instead: washed materials, crumpled linen, driftwood and a sand, ecru and olive palette.
Living outdoors from May to October
In Saint-Tropez the terrace is the main room for a good half of the year. Large solid wood tables, deep low seating, removable covers and carefully designed outdoor lighting: this is where the project is won.
Shaded zones — pergola, planted arbour, sail shades — should be treated as rooms, each with a clear use: meals, siesta, drinks facing the sunset.
Design for seasonal rental from day one
Many Tropezian villas are rented part of the summer. That calls for robust materials, closed storage for personal belongings and furniture that is easy to clean between stays.
A well-decorated, well-photographed villa immediately positions higher in the market: an investment that often pays for itself within one or two seasons.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does a Saint-Tropez villa project take?
- Allow three to six months for a full decoration with bespoke furniture, longer if renovation work is needed. Starting in autumn is ideal to deliver before the season.
- Do you work with local craftspeople?
- Yes, I rely on a network in the Var and Alpes-Maritimes: joiners, upholsterers, painters and landscapers, selected project after project.
- Can an already furnished villa be redecorated?
- Absolutely. We keep the quality pieces, remove what weighs the space down, and reinvest the budget in textiles, lighting and two or three statement pieces.
