2026 interior design trends in Bordeaux

Bordeaux interior in neutral tones illustrating 2026 decorating trends

Decorating a Haussmann apartment in Les Chartrons, a renovated échoppe in Saint-Genès or a house on the Bassin d'Arcachon follows different rules from a Mediterranean villa. The softer, greyer Atlantic light calls for warm tones and living materials. Here are the 2026 trends I actually apply on my Bordeaux projects.

A palette of warm restraint

The dominant 2026 trend in Bordeaux interiors can be summed up in two words: warm restraint. After years of saturated colours and strong contrasts, homes are returning to off-whites, sand, soft terracotta and muted olive green.

These tones work beautifully with Bordeaux's pale stone and Atlantic light. In practice, choose one light dominant colour for the walls, a deeper shade for one room with character (study, bedroom, entrance) and only two accents, carried by textiles and objects.

Materials that create depth

Washed linen, bouclé wool, oiled solid oak, travertine and handmade ceramics lead the way. Vintage or locally made furniture is preferred over mass production, and imperfections are embraced: slightly irregular plaster, wood that develops a patina, hand-thrown pottery.

In a period apartment, the rule is to keep what gives the place its soul — mouldings, fireplaces, herringbone floors — and pair it with contemporary furniture with soft lines. This dialogue avoids both the museum and the showroom effect.

Lighting, the best return on budget

Lighting is a design subject in its own right. The single ceiling fixture gives way to three layers: soft general light, wall or table lamps for living zones, and a few accent points on artwork or shelving.

A well-lit interior instantly feels larger and more welcoming, with no structural work at all. Along with textiles, it is the highest impact-to-budget item of any Bordeaux decorating project.

Frequently asked questions

What budget should I plan to redecorate an apartment in Bordeaux?
For decoration without structural work, expect roughly €250 to €600 per m² depending on the level of furniture and finishes. Advice-only support, with plans and a shopping list, remains accessible for a first project.
Can original mouldings and parquet be kept?
Yes, and it is recommended in Bordeaux: these features add heritage value and pair perfectly with restrained contemporary furniture.
Do you work around the Bassin d'Arcachon?
Yes. Bordeaux, the Bassin d'Arcachon and the Médoc are part of my usual area, with regular site visits.
